Access documents and transcripts related to specific people—defendants, authors, prosecutors, and more—involved in the trials. Start with these three high-ranking officers. Collections of documents assembled by IMT and NMT staff for possible use in the trials, evidence files provided nearly all of the documentary evidence used by the prosecution.
The documents were organized into sixteen subject groups. Here are a couple of the most interesting. Currently, we have been able to make available the full, keyword-searchable text of four trial transcripts, documenting the verbatim daily proceedings of NMT Trials 1, 2, 3 and 7, ranging in extent from 4, to 12, pages each.
They include witness testimony, the presentation of exhibits, oral arguments by counsel, and rulings by the tribunal.
As of fall , we have digitized images of all , pages of documents and transcripts in the collection and have provided searchable text for 5 of the 13 transcripts using corrected OCR.
In , after the death of the German President, Hitler used his unchecked legislative power to combine his role with that of the president.
Immediately following World War II, a series of thirteen trials were held, bringing to justice those responsible for these war crimes and others. Later that year, the Allies met again at the Tehran Conference, where Soviet leader Joseph Stalin proposed the simple execution of the responsible German parties.
While U. President Franklin D. Roosevelt entertained the idea, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill suggested a trial in the location that the crime was committed. In , the major Allies met again at the Yalta Conference where they reiterated that the punishment of Nazis would be imminent, regardless of the method. In the same year, President Roosevelt died and Harry S. Truman assumed office. President Truman favored the judicial approach for bringing major members of the Nazi government to justice, and thus the Nuremberg trials were born.
In August , the European Advisory Commission issued the London Charter , outlining the rules and procedures for the Nuremberg trials. The first of 13 Nuremberg trials commenced on November 20, with the International Military Tribunal. Twenty-four individuals and seven organizations were brought before the Tribunal, each with four charges:. Parker, and Justice Robert H. Jackson respectively.
This claim that the Covid vaccines are experimental is simply not true, and something we have corrected multiple times. The three Covid vaccines currently given temporary authorisation for use in the UK have been shown to be safe and effective in large scale clinical trials. Informed consent is still required for those receiving the Covid or any other vaccine. But Professor Emma Cave, professor of healthcare law at Durham University, explained that the need for this does not come from the Nuremberg Code.
It prevents a battery or negligence, and protects the autonomy rights of the patient. So informed consent is doing slightly different things in relation to research and treatment. Arguments that the vaccines are experimental usually hinge on the fact that data is being collected on any side effects in recipients, although it is normal that authorities continue to monitor the safety of all vaccines once they are approved.
Data on the long term protection and safety of the Covid will continue to be collected over the coming years. The same would be true of something like [the anti-depressant] Prozac.
