Date auto update in word 2010

But whenever my computer geek installs new memory or updates my machine in other ways , my dates for ALL the transferred documents hundreds , many dates carefully preserved for legal reasons, change. The box was never checked to automatically update the date but it did anyway. I have a letter to Immigration from , I need to know the date I wrote it, and everytime I open it, it shows todays date, it drives me crazy.

The current date and time will be inserted as text. Inserting them as a field makes it possible to have them update every time the document is opened. To do this, add one step to the previous process as follows. When you point the cursor over the date, it will become gray — to edit it, just click on the gray field and type in the new date. If you change your mind and want to set it back to the current date, click on the box and choose the Update option that appears above.

Tip: To save time, try inserting date and time in your Word document by using keyboard shortcuts. The latest versions of Microsoft Office added a new feature for inserting the date.

This means you've inserted a field that you can change or update. To change the date back to the current date, click the date field and click Update. Note: If you manually change the date and then save and close your document, the next time the document is opened, Word will show the current date.
